Beaten Pup Care…
One of my client raised a new issue about his pup of six years old. His five yr old grandson was outside last Sunday when he heard his six month mini aussie pup crying, he looked out the window to saw him hitting him in the ribs with a stick.
He immediately went outside and stopped him. His little guy is usually such a happy little guy, now he won’t eat and even growled at him when he was trying to see where he hurts.
He tried to give him half an aspirin in some cottage cheese but he would not even take that.
He asked me- “Can I just leave him alone and hope he feels better? Just tonight he took a couple of pieces of soft treats but that’s all.”
What would be your suggestion?
I suggested him to give the first aid at the beaten spots with antiseptic lotion and ointments. Then this poor dog requires highly digestible foods, such as chicken, rice and scrambled eggs.
Like human beings dogs are also prone to different kinds of stomach or gastric problems. Dyspepsia, stomach upset is the main reason for not taking feed for this dog. This is mainly due to pain or discomfort associated with digestive disturbances.
The best treatment for this pain inflicted loss of appetite is slow down or eliminate the problem that caused the anorexia in the first place. If his dog continually not taken feed for next two days, “Supportive” treatments are necessary to help sustain a dog that is debilitated as a result of not eating.
As bottom line, he should know that owning and caring for a dog is hard work but is also very enjoyable. Pretty soon his grand son will start to build a strong relationship with the dog. It will become a part of his family. Take it from me, owning a dog is a true pleasure for his grand son.
