Dog training for swimming is not a Herculean task because swimming is a natural instinct of a dog. If the dog rose along with the mother, it would be easy for learning the act of swimming.

Choose a shallow lake or pool for teaching dog swimming. Please enter the water with your dog. Although most of the dogs would be nervous about venturing on their own, presence of owner will increase the confident of the dog.

Fetch a favorite toy with you and throw this toy to minimal distances and swimming over it.

Even you can bring another dog that knows how to swim during the training session to help encourage your dog to make a try to swim. While teaching dog swimming, please have necessary equipments including Life Jackets (life vests). This product is having a long handle, which you can hold onto easily and are useful to get back your dog to the boat.

Dog Swimming Training Problems

If your pups escape out, it won’t return back for swimming at all during its lifetime. Hence it is always advised not to let them off-leash. Toys used for dog training should be retrieving bumpers and toys.

Finally, bathe your dog after swimming with fresh water to get rid of any chemicals or bacteria. Rinse your dog before hand to prevent the water getting absorbed into the coat hair.
